What is Doula Back-Up Insurance?

Every doula needs a back-up, in case of sickness, emergency, or pre-planned availability conflicts. When you purchase Doula Back-up Insurance through Birth it Forward. You don’t just get one back-up, but your choice of multiple trained, available doulas.

How to Use It

Email Kristen Mason at Kristen@birthitforward.org to purchase your annual, non-refundable, subscription to Birth it Forward Doula Back-up Insurance. You may submit a request for a back-up per client by filling out our request form, once enrolled in the program. In this form, you will submit your bid outlining how much you are open to paying your back-up. You may also use this form to request your preferred doulas. Birth it Forward will submit your bid to the doula(s) of your choice. If you don’t have a preference your bid will be summitted to all our doulas.

If your bid is not accepted, you will be given the option to increase your bid amount. Once your bid has been accepted by a participating doula, Birth it Forward will give you your back-up’s contact information. If the back-up is not used, simply message them to let them know their services will not be needed. If the back-up is called in, Birth it Forward will verify the hours worked with both the Insured Doula and the back-up doula. The Insured Doula will be billed by Birth it Forward and Birth it Forward will process payment for the doula who provided services. If the back-up is unavailable when your client goes into labor Birth it Forward will find another doula available. You can rest assured that your client will not be left without support.

How much does it cost?

An annual membership costs $100/annually or $10/monthly. You must have the starting bid for your back-up be a minimum of 4% of your total fee per hour until maxing out at 40%.
